I don’t usually hear people refer to Psalm 139 when talking about creative thinking. When talking about “creation”? Yes. But when talking about “creative thinking”? No.
Creation is the topic in verses 13-16. The creation of a person. The miracle of birth. The “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” thing. God knit your body together. He knew you before you were born. He knew all your days before you took your first breath. All good stuff. All true. But what’s this have to do with creative thinking?
One requirement of creative thinking is … thinking.
We grow up learning to form good habits so we can do them without thinking about them. And that’s fine for some things. But it’s hard to improve something if you don’t think about it. Which brings me back to Psalm 139.
Verse 16 says, “How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!” This says the God who knows everything, still thinks about it. If the God of the universe thinks about all He’s made even after He made it, that seems like a good example to follow.
